One day, a man went to an auction and spotted an exotic parrot. He really wanted the bird, so he started bidding. But every time he raised his paddle, someone kept bidding him higher. And higher. And higher.

He kept going — way past what he'd planned to spend. Finally, after a bidding war that left his wallet crying, he won. The parrot was his.

As he was paying, he turned to the auctioneer and said, "I sure hope this parrot can actually talk. I'd hate to pay this much and find out he can't."

The auctioneer replied, "Of course he can talk."
